Cardboard Cycads, scientifically known as Zamia furfuracea, are fascinating cycad plants native to Mexico. Despite their common name, Cardboard Cycads are not made of cardboard but rather have stiff, leathery leaves that resemble cardboard in texture. These are rarely available as a botanical in the hobby. The thick leaves leech a moderate tannin in smaller aquariums and provide a perfect surface for biofilms to grow on.
